An Selen

An Selen (b.1975) is a Belgian artist. She pursued her studies in interior architecture at Henri van de Velde in Antwerp, which equipped her with a profound understanding of architectural principles and a keen design sensibility. This education instilled in her the ethos of "less is more" championed by luminaries such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Mies van der Rohe, Luis Barragán, and Tadao Ando. Embracing minimalist ideals, Selen embarked on her artistic journey in 1999. Over the next twelve years, she collaborated with international project developers on prestigious real estate ventures spanning locations such as Courchevel, Mougins, Paris, the Seychelles, Barbados, Marbella, Milan, the Hamptons, China, and Dubai.

Her creative inspiration stems from antiquity and the natural world, finding profound beauty in their weathered textures and time-worn character. She sees these imperfections as a counterbalance to our consumption-driven culture, offering a glimpse into simpler times. For Selen, the creative process is a continuous exploration of form and expression. She questions whether true creativity begins with a blank canvas or if it originates from a more primal place, seeking to give shape to something yet undiscovered.
